DeSantis: Florida drivers have right to hit protesters if they need to 'flee for your safety'

What's Actually Happening

The current title suggests that Ron DeSantis supports hitting every protester with their car; even suggesting that it's within Floridians rights to do so. That is a ridiculous oversimplification of what he said.

Florida law allows self defense, the law does not require Floridians to try to flee the scene without hurting anyone.1 If you are in danger in Florida, you can defend yourself up to and including the use of deadly force.

The headline that was chosen by Newsweek is dangerous. It incites violence and is serving only as clickbait.

The Miami New Times also posted a similarly titled article: "DeSantis Gives Floridians Permission to Run Over Protesters" written by Naomi Feinstein.

This title is just as dangerous.
